Balancing Screen Time for Kids' Eye Health

Balancing Screen Time for Kids' Eye Health

Now that our keiki are back in school, it's important to keep their eyes healthy so that they are able to make the most of their education!

With screen time increasing for children, remember to balance technology use with proper eye care practices to promote and ensure healthy eyes!

Here are a few tips and strategies for parents to protect their children's eye health while using screens:

  1. 20-20-20 Rule: Every 20 minutes, take a 20-second break to look at something 20 feet away.
  2. Set Limits: Establish age-appropriate screen time limits. Remember, moderation is key!
  3. Screen-Free Bedrooms: Improve sleep by keeping devices out of bedrooms.
  4. Outdoor Play: Encourage at least 1 hour of outdoor activity daily to reduce myopia risk.
  5. Regular Check-ups: Schedule annual eye exams for early detection of vision problems.

By implementing these tips, you can help protect your children's vision while allowing them to benefit from the advantages of digital technology.
