COVID-19 has cancelled a lot of events this year, including the Haena to Hanalei run that we were looking forward to doing. Dr. Punzal and Brity decided to coordinate our own run- our first ever Punzal Vision Kealia Sunrise Half Marathon! As a team, we met at the Kealia Lifeguard stand at 4:15am. We were surprised with festivities replicating the actual Half Marathon. We had an opening ceremony that included torch lighting and conch shell blowing by Uncle Ono and Smilie, a team prayer by Tianne, and the singing of The Star Spangled Banner as well as Hawai’i Pono’i by our very own Kahelena Degracia. As we lined up at the start line, we were sent off with a small firework show and a countdown! Everyone did an amazing job and finished strong! In the end, we were rewarded with leis, refreshments, and a professional massage by Dr. Punzal’s brother Jacob “Smilie” Punzal! We enjoy doing these types of activities as it promotes an active and healthy lifestyle as well as boosts team morale and strengthens our bond.
Mahalo to Dr. Punzal and Brity for creating this experience that we will never forget.
